I hope you all enjoyed watching week during the last week of term at Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance!
Watching week is just great.. It allows parents to see what progress children have made throughout the term, new starters can show off their fun new dance class to their parents, teachers can explain to parents different exercises and their benefits, and children get to show off!
It gives the children a goal to work towards. For example, in Musical Theatre, we were working on a short 15/20 minute performance for parents in watching week. It gave the children a goal, a time limit for learning scripts and song lyrics. The children LOVED showing off their short 'Oliver' piece. And I think the parents loved it too!
As teachers, we are always super excited to show the progress that has been made during the term. I know that in my classes (Miss Cheryl) we have worked on A LOT of different things this last term, just as all classes have, but here's my view.. I was so excited for parents to see what the kids have been doing. In contemporary, we had been working on a certain move in one of the classes that had been a struggle for some time, and then all of a sudden they had it! Which was ace! Hard work and baby steps = PROGRESS! This was ace to show off to parents.
In Acro, we had been working on partner balances and lifts. This takes a lot of time and a lot of team work. So again, it was really great to show the commitment and hard work ethic that the students had when working with each other to gain these new skills.
We love watching week at YRAD, and we hope you do too. Let's see what we have to show next term!
